A Garland
man abducted his wife at a coffee shop Tuesday, shot and wounded her and
then killed himself outside the Medical City
Dallas Hospital emergency room in North
Dallas, police said.
Garland officers were called to a Starbucks at Arapaho Road and North Shiloh Road about 7:20 p.m. after witnesses reported that a man who had been waving a gun in the parking lot had forced a woman into a pickup truck.
The man, identified as 32-year-old David Espinosa, fired a shot into the truck before driving away, Garland Officer Joe Harn said.
Police pursued the truck for several miles but lost sight of it before it reached Medical City Dallas near Coit Road and Forest Lane about 7:45 p.m.
Espinosa pulled up in front of the emergency room and let his wife out, Harn said.
Ana Porto, 29, had been shot in the upper torso and was reportedly in guarded condition.
Espinosa shot himself inside the truck after the woman ran into the emergency room.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said it continued "to function as normal” while police investigated the incident.
All patients and staff members at the hospital were reported to be safe after the shooting.
