Discussion Point #2-
If given a choice, would you want your kids thinking such
[stereotypical] things about someone they don’t even know? A lot of parents don’t see it [racial
stereotyping] as being negative because that’s the way that they think as well.
On major thing that everyone as a collective community can do to stop racial
stereotyping is to spread knowledge. When you hear someone talking about it or
making a stereotypical comment, even if it’s a joke, say something to dissuade
them. Share that it is wrong to judge someone just because their ethic group.
Just give some facts and tell them what you know. It is a simple concept, but
its true that knowledge is power.
